First tree for the Festive Forest is up!

We have the first tree up in our forest thanks to Serendipity Bible House on Madison Street. They made their ornaments out of foam sheets cut into holiday shapes and then sprinkled with glitter. They are so pretty when the sun shines on them.

We still have room for more trees if you’d like to contribute one! Sign up to come by any time this month to set up a tree here.

So far, we have these groups signed up:

Angels with Heart
Found It Peer Support and Social Group
Girl Scout Troops 20435/30134
Grandeur Designs, Inc.
In memory of Eddie Rose
In Memory of Pamela Parkhurst

Festive Forest

SOLANO COUNTY RESIDENTS:
I have always wanted to bring something like San Jose’s Christmas in the Park to Downtown Fairfield, but I need your help! I’m seeking businesses, schools, clubs, sports teams, and service organizations to each decorate their own artificial tree with ornaments made from recycled items or items of no value and to set it up in our back lot in November. The grand opening will be December 2nd during the City of Fairfield’s official tree lighting and then the forest will be open during our regular hours all December.

Your tree will be a billboard for you, and we will also provide a sign with who decorated each tree. Visitors will vote for their favorite, and we’ll announce 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners after Christmas. You may laminate photos of your staff, make garland by stringing together your business cards, and use things like plastic bottles, tin cans, baby food jars, popsicle sticks, and anything else you can think of for ornaments. A plumber might make ornaments from bits of leftover pipe, a painter could use old paintbrushes, small paint cans, and paint samples, while an electrician could use bits of wire to create ornaments or use old light bulbs. The idea is to be as creative as possible while spending hardly any money. If you can get 20-30 people to each make an ornament it would take just a few minutes.

It is free to participate as you will provide your own tree and decorations, and it will be free to visit. Not only will you help make our Festive Forest a fun place to go in December, you will be helping out your community in lots of other ways. We will be collecting food for the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano Counties, new unwrapped toys for the Marine Toys For Tots Foundation, and children will be able to mail their letters to Santa. Macy’s will donate $1 for each letter to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
To make a November appointment to set up your tree, please go to https://form.jotform.com/snjrose/ff or email LegendaryLtrs@gmail.com with any questions. ~Elf Stacy (owner of Legendary Letters)

Growing up in San Jose, Elf Stacy always loved going to Christmas in the Park, and she wants to bring a mini version of it to Fairfield. You can see some of the wonderful trees from last year’s Christmas in the Park here.

See the discussion for updates on the participating businesses and the activities they will host.

For more information go to: FB Event

So far Legendary Letters, Slime World, Pizza Twist, Digital Stitchz, Three Restaurant, Vintique Marketplace, the Downtown Theatre, the Matt Garcia Foundation, the Fairfield Civic Center Library, Michael Electronic Services, CruiseOne, and Rosanna’s have all joined.
There is a free parking lot at the corner of Webster & Kentucky Streets and another off the alley behind it. It may be very hot that day so we don’t recommend costumes. Bring water. Wear comfortable shoes to walk all of downtown as well as a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun. It’s going to be wicked! Until then, don’t let the muggles get you down.
*This is a free event, but space is limited. You may want to arrive before 1pm to make sure supplies don’t run out early. If we get more people than we have supplies for we may ask groups of 2-4 to share one card. If there are 12 stops, each person in a group of 4 would still get to do 3 activities, a group of 3 would get to do 4 each, and a group of 2 would do 6 each. We know Harry Potter fans will want as many people to participate as possible in the fun so thank you in advance!
(Please follow the COVID-19 requirements for each business. Masks may need to be worn inside. Streets will not be closed so be careful crossing the street and use designated crosswalks.)

Team Up with VnA’s Gingy House in Suisun, CA!

Good Day Sacramento visited VnA’s Gingy House in Suisun, CA today! Thank you for the shout to Legendary Letters too! We had so much fun teaming up with them this year during the pandemic, that we’ve decided to continue next year too. We will donate up to 200 free Santa replies in 2021 instead of the regular 100 replies that we’ve done for the past 7 years.

Hopefully Christmas next year will be back to normal and children can again write their letters to Santa Claus at our booth at the City of Fairfield’s Tree Lighting the first Friday in December. Kids will also be able to drop off letters to Santa in downtown Fairfield at Legendary Letters and VnA’s Gingy House on Shoveller Drive in Suisun up until December 18th. For those who live outside Solano County, you can send letters to Santa through the mail any time throughout the year using this address:

Santa Claus
c/o Legendary Letters
707 Kentucky Street
Fairfield, CA 94533

Merry Christmas from Elf Stacy, Elf James, Elf Hunter, and Elf Logan!

Send your letters to us for a chance at getting free magical mail!

Each year at Christmas, we have had a booth at the city of Fairfield’s tree lighting where people can write letters to Santa Claus. The first 100 letters we receive there get a response from Santa and all go to the Macy’s Believe Program to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. This year due to the pandemic, it is unlikely that we will have the booth like we usually do. Instead, we’d like to invite you to send us your letters to Santa and anyone else you or your children would like to write to! We have gotten letters to the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, Batman, Harry Potter, Minerva McGonagall, Cupid, and many more. We will randomly select 100 people to receive a response and we will still give all letters to the Make a Wish Foundation at the end of the year so they can collect $1 for each from Macy’s.

Please address your letters like so:

(Magical Being of your choice)
c/o Legendary Letters
707 Kentucky Street
Fairfield, CA 94533

P.S. Don’t forget to include a return address or the magical being(s) won’t know where to write you back. 🙂

First Ever Legendary Letters Writing Contest

I’ve been tinkering with the idea of hosting a letter writing contest for some time, and I’ve decided to go for it! I’ve sent thousands of letters out over the past 22 years (every single one written by me). I still love what I do, but I can’t help thinking it would be great to have input from other people. What would it be like to have a resident of Ireland write as a leprechaun for St. Patrick’s Day, a WWII veteran write as Uncle Sam for Independence Day, or an Environmentalist write as Mother Nature for Mother’s Day? I can imagine being these things, but I haven’t really lived it the way they have. I also wondered how writers from all generations would have different points of view and memories about the holidays? I really hope we get submissions from Millennials, Gen Xers, Baby Boomers, and the Greatest Generation as well as those still in school.

I’ve posted all the details on the Contest Page and hope you’ll check it out. There are 11 categories of characters and holidays to choose from. Anyone 13 and up may enter, and the deadline is December 15, 2018. Prizes will be awarded on December 20, 2018 just in time for the holidays. Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to write a letter to a fictional child named Jessie Jones as a magical being.

Thank you so much to the following sites who have added us to their list of contests:

Almond Press

Duotrope

FreelanceWriting

Aswiebe’s
